Should 5G Coverage be Mandated in License Conditions?

By Rolla Hassan, Ph.D

Based on further analysis of the 5G Connectivity Index, several key findings emerge:

  • 58% of countries have an above-average 5G coverage indicator.
  • Only 41% of countries have an above-average 5G download speed indicator.
  • There is a significant variance in the 5G download speeds indicator, ranging from 8.76 to 100.

Given this substantial variance in download speeds, should the conditions of 5G licenses mandate specific coverage requirements to ensure more consistent performance across different regions?
